But on the same day there is another holiday, much more Bulgarian than the pink one. It is much more important not only for Bulgarians, but for Balkan people at all. We call it – The Wine Holiday.

On 10th of February Bulgarians celebrate a holiday dedicated to the beekeepers and their patron St. Haralambos, because he was the person who discovered the miraculous benefits of honey. Bansko is the newest Eastern Europe winter resort visited by many Bulgarian and foreign tourists. The city offers an interesting combination between the virgin nature of the Pirin Mountains and the atmosphere of an authentic Bulgarian city. Skiing season along the Pirin slopes starts in mid-December to mid-April. Over the last few years, skiing in Bulgaria has become increasingly popular among European tourists, due to its amazing value for money.

Do you like winter sports as I do? I really hope so :) Because of that and because the winter is already here I would like to tell you a Sofia local secret. And this time is not about good places for skiing, but probably the best place with the cheapest ski and snowboard equipment I know in Bulgaria. As you know the winter sports equipment is quite expensive everywhere. If you have those money is not gonna be a problem to dress up for the tracks, but for most of young Bulgarians is more difficult to do it with humble means. The good food offered in the taverns, which you can find on any corner in Bansko. Bansko is one of the most popular and modern ski resorts in Eastern Europe and boasts a lively nightlife. Unlike many winter resorts, the hotels and other facilities in Bansko are situated exclusively in the town. Bansko has over 140 local restaurants (mehanas), hotel restaurants and street cafés, plus 12 clubs and 2 casinos.

Nestled in the high mountains, not far from the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia, Bansko is one of the places which brings the spirit of the entire country.
When I was a kid my parents traveled all the way from the eastern part of the country to this magical place to teach me skiing , hiking or just to be closer to nature. Since I grew up enough and started to travel alone began attending town more and more often – alone, with friends or with tourists who visit Bulgaria for the very first time in their life. And the most amazing thing is that every time I take someone out there, the place makes him feel home.

Feito a mão! The real hand made! It is a fact that most of the sidewalks in the Portuguese cities are covered with pavement. But not the usual sidewalk pavers, produced in factories for rubbish but special Calcada made by hand.
